Your staff spend most of their time on Internet to verify insurance, check elgibility, fill out and submit claims, check EOBs, send emails to patients, schedule and check appointments, and perhaps order supplies.

Then you know computers and Internet are critical part of your operation. And you may have been hearing from your staff that they cannot access certain web sites or sometimes Internet is slow. Truth is when your staff cannot access the Internet or when the system is slow, you are loosing valuable time.

Imagine your staff use Internet for their daily activity 100 times per day. A 1-minute delay will add up to 100 minutes per day, and 433 hours per year. If you are paying $15 per hour to your employee, then you are loosing $6495 per year. And this is only for one staff.

Network Maintenance

You may think if you replace your PCs and complete PC maintenance on regular schedule, then you should see performance improvement. This could be true only if you have the latest network technology and your network is designed to improve performance.

Many physician offices are still using the old technology such as Hub instead of switch, or older router. With new router not only you could improve the performance, but you will add other features such as spam and virus protection.

Just because you have installed a backup system doesn't mean it is working. If you cannot restore your data during disaster, then you really don't have any backup.

If you don't have central security such Active Directory and you are using generic logins or same passwords for more than three months, then your network is not really secured.
